Coin-Cleaning Experiment

A fun experiment to pique your kids’ interests in some of life’s mysteries.

Directions: Give each child four copper coins and one small container each of ketchup, lemon juice and salt, soy sauce, and vinegar and salt. Have the children dip half of the first coin into the ketchup and hold it there for one minute, then wipe it off with a tissue and rinse it with water. Repeat this process with the rest of the coins, dipping half into each container. Finally, have the children compare coins and decide which mixture cleaned the coins the best.
